When you are applying for visa application to the UK Border Agency (UKBA) for entry clearance into the UK, you may be asked to obtain an independent assessment of the accommodation where they propose to live. This is to make sure that the property the visa applicant is intending to live in, is safe, in a good state of repair and doesn't pose a health and safety risk. The property inspection report will also assess whether the property would become overcrowded if any more people were to move in.
When assessing, the surveyor will consider that the property:
- be safe, in a good state of repair and not pose a health and safety risk
- has adequate provision for lighting, heating and ventilation
- has an adequate piped supply of wholesome water;
- has satisfactory facilities in the dwelling for the preparation and cooking of food
- it has a suitably located water closet for the exclusive use of the occupants
- have a sufficient number of rooms of adequate sizes; we will assess whether the property will become overcrowded if more people move in.
Applying for a property inspection:
The sponsor or visa applicant can apply for property inspection report for visa application. Before applying for an inspection you should have the following personal information available:
- details of the property to be assessed, including full address. We may asked some more information at the time of booking as a part to pre-visit assessment.
- Name, date of birth and passport number of visa applicant.
- Name and date of birth of sponsor and his/ her relation with visa applicant.
- Name and date of birth of other people (if any) living in the property and their relation with sponsor.
How long the inspection last for?
The survey will last around 30 minutes but may differ depending on the property size and condition.
How long will it take to get the inspection report?
